For the first time ever, fans were able to cast their vote to chose their captain of the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game by using social media platform, Snapchat.

The MLS All-Stars are set to take on English Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver on Wednesday 29th of July.

There are 22 players who have been selected to play for the MLS All-Stars. The fans chose ten players, another ten players were selected by the coach’s and the final two player were picked by the Commissioner. Steven Gerrard, who recently signed for LA Galaxy, was chosen by the Commissioner.

How it worked:

  • – MLS All-Star coach Pablo Mastroeni nominated three players to be captain
  • – Fans who follow ‘MLS’ on Snapchat and tuned in to their story saw an illustrations of the three players
  • – To vote, fans took a screenshot of the player they wanted to be the captain
  • – One screenshot = One vote

Major League Soccer have been prolific on Snapchat as they have pushed the boundaries when it comes to using the social media platform. In February, MLS kicked off seven straight days of Snapchat takeovers from players from different clubs and also during the Women’s World Cup, you could watch behind-the-scenes coverage.
